During this workshop, participants will be introduced to photopolymer plate processing and printing. This technique will allow photographers to create multiple impressions on archival papers using environmentally friendly methods.

Photopolymer plates (also known as solar plates) have a UV light sensitive coating which enables etching a metal plate using UV light without using acid or other chemicals.

This method enables photographers to transfer their photographs (printed on transparency film) to metal plates by exposing them in a UV light box (or out in the sun). After the plate is processed in water and hardened, it is inked and printed on an etching press.

During the course of the workshop different methods of applying ink (both black and color) will be shown. Stenciling and collaging elements of photographs to create new images will also be explored.

Instructions on the preparation of photographs will be sent upon registration.

No prior printmaking experience necessary.

Danguole Rita Kuolas, is an experienced printmaker, member of the California Society of Printmakers and the Boston Printmakers. She has previously taught workshops at Studio 55 and her photopolymer etchings can be seen at the Moraga Art Gallery.

*There is a $30.00 materials fee to be paid directly to Danguole Rita Kuolas at the beginning of the workshop
